Hookah
Hookah
A hookah is a water pipe used for smoking tobacco or flavored tobacco, also called shisha.
The hookah consists of a water chamber (sometimes called a base), a hose,a bowl and a mouthpiece. The bowl is filled with tobacco and heat is applied to the tobacco, causing it to smoke. The smoke travels through the hose and into the water chamber, where it is cooled and them inhaled through the mouthpiece.
Hookah smoking is thought to have originated in India in the 16th century. It quickly spread to other parts of the Middle East and then to the rest of the world. Hookah smoking is very popular in the United States because it is often seen as a safer alternative to cigarette smoking.
